13 marine emergency plans involving typhoon defense, collision, power loss, pollution, life rescue and other aspects were released at the press conference on water traffic safety held on March 7, ensuring the safety of all ships involved in the Shanghai EXPO.
Shanghai MSA announced that EXPO Marine Emergency Control Command Center has been established.
It is estimated that there will be 1,200 passing ships and 140,000 passengers in the core control areas of the Huangpu River in Shanghai per day during the EXPO, posing great challenges to the maritime safety supervision. There will be 150 ships plying the EXPO Park and 650 ships sailing between the east and west banks of the Huangpu River every day then. 7 water gates (3 inside and 4 outside the EXPO Park), 6 ferry terminals and 35 EXPO vessels will be involved in the EXPO.
According to Shanghai MSA, vessels involved in the marine security for the EXPO will reach 90.
Besides, a vessel traffic control system exclusive for EXPO based on GIS technology will be launched into use on April 1, to enable all-round supervision over ships to enter Shanghai during the EXPO. Ships' information including filed records, ship dynamics, audit results, inspection requirements, safety inspection and on-site examination will be available in this system.
