Xu Zuyuan Meets with IMRF Chairman

Vice Minister of Transport Xu Zuyuan met with Mr. Michael Vlasto, Chairman of International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) in Beijing on March 5. They exchanged views on strengthening maritime rescue cooperation.
 
Xu Zuyuan extended his appreciation to Mr. Michael Vlasto for his efforts in supporting and promoting the cooperation between China and IMRF at first. He highlighted that IMRF has made great efforts in supporting maritime rescue organizations in developing countries and contributed a lot to prevent loss of life in the world's waters. With the booming of the global shipping industry, vessels are becoming larger and more complicated, posing more challenges and higher requirement for life rescue and property security at sea.
 
Xu pledged that the Chinese government will consistently attach importance and attention to maritime rescue development and expect to deepen cooperation between the China Rescue and Salvage Bureau and IMRF, to jointly contribute its part in promoting the lofty cause of maritime rescue.
 
Michael Vlasto expressed his admiration for the Chinese government's concerns for the maritime rescue and appreciation for the support from the Chinese Ministry of Transport as well as the China Rescue and Salvage Bureau. He expected both sides to enhance coordination and cooperation to ensure the world maritime safety together.
 
It is reported that the 2011 International Maritime Rescue Conference will be held in Shanghai. Minister Xu said that all valuable advice on the conference is welcomed from the maritime community including IMRF.
