Concerned shipping enterprises,
Singapore Shipping Association, authorized by the Information Fusion Center of Singapore Navy, issued a pre-warning to the shipping community on March 4 that some terrorist group is planning to attack tankers and merchant ships sailing through the Malacca Strait. It analyzed that the terrorists may start the attack with suicide collision or onboard bombing by single-masted boats or speedboats in Singapore waters to paralyze the Singapore Straits or Singapore Port.
Concerned shipping enterprises are reminded to take following measures to effectively defend the terrorist attack:
1. keep high alert and strengthen lookout;
2. send warning signals to terrorists when attacked;
3. ensure adequate lighting. The navigation light is better be open to ensure adequate lighting at stern;
4. pass quickly on the premise of navigational safety;
5. strictly guard the hatchway;
6. keep clear of dense fishing areas as much possible;
7. keep anti-piracy equipment ready.
