  • Xu Ruqing had a meeting with IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim

     

     

    On November 23, Xu Ruqing,head of the Maritime Safety Administration of the People's Republic of China (China MSA) had a meeting with IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim at IMO Headquarters in London.

    Mr.Xu expressed his thanks to the effort made by IMO about promoting navigation safety of ships and protecting marine environment. Mr.Xu said, as a special agency of UN which is responsible for dealing with international maritime affairs, IMO provides a platform for all the maritime participants by organizing professional conferences. Through this platform, all the maritime participants are able to communicate, exchange information and seek for development. Meanwhile, IMO creates a global legal framework which is fair and effective by making international maritime conventions and laws.IMO has made an outstanding contribution to safe, green, healthy and sustainable maritime development.

    Mr.Lim thanked for Mr.Xu's highly praise about IMO's effort. Mr.Lim also expressed that all the achievement accomplished by IMO depends on the effective performance of the Member states. Especially, China has given a good example about implementing IMO conventions. Mr.Lim said, China's maritime work has developed rapidly because of the special system of maritime administration. Mr.Lim appreciated that China accepted his invitation and shared China maritime administration experiences with all Member States during the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) 97th session. Mr.Lim said, China maritime administration experiences could help other Member States to improve their management systems.

    Mr.Xu said, the development of China maritime administration could not be separated from IMO's support and assistance. Finally, Mr.Xu said that Chinese government wished to strengthen cooperation with IMO, which was agreed by Mr.Lim.
