On October 14-18, 2019, the 28th Marine Accident Investigators’ International Forum （MAIIF） was held in Naples, Italy. The Chinese delegation consisted of five senior investigators including the China Maritime Safety Administration （MSA）, Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration and Jiangsu Maritime Safety Administration and representatives from 40 countries and regions attended the meeting.
The meeting conducted in-depth discussions on 14 issues including seafarers’ mental health problems and accidents in busy waters. The topic on the accidents in busy waters hosted by us was actively participated and discussed by Sweden, Denmark, Singapore and other countries. Everyone agreed that the issue was realistic, the problems reflected were objective and truthful, and the proposed improvement measures were reasonable and feasible. At the same time, we also introduced a typical collision accident case in the Yangtze River waters, which caused a wide resonance among the participants.
At this meeting, Captain Wu Yanguo, the Senior Investigator of the China MSA, was re-elected as the Assistant Chairman of MAIIF. This is the third time that China’s Marine Accident Investigator has been elected.
The Marine Accident Investigators’ International Forum （MAIIF） is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to the advancement of maritime safety and the prevention of marine pollution through the exchange of ideas, experiences and information acquired in marine accident investigation. Its purpose is to promote and improve marine accident investigation, and to foster cooperation and communication between marine accident investigators.
