From February 18 to 21, 2025, the First General Assembly of the International Organization for Marine Aids to Navigation (IALA) was held in Singapore. On February 20, during the election for the first IALA Council, China was elected as a Council Member with a high vote.
China's election with a high vote fully reflects the international community's recognition of China's long-standing contributions to the field of maritime navigation aids. China will continue to deepen international cooperation with an open attitude, promote the digital transformation and sustainable development of maritime navigation aid facilities, and ensure maritime traffic safety.
The International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (predecessor of IALA) was established in 1957 and officially became an intergovernmental organization (IGO) on August 22, 2024. China is one of the first founding members of IALA.
