Maritime Emergency Drill Successfully Held in Xiamen during the Third China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers' Meeting

On May 29, 2025, the Maritime Emergency Drill, as part of the third China-Pacific Island Countries(PICs) Foreign Ministers' Meeting, hosted by the Maritime Safety Administration of the Ministry of Transport, was successfully concluded in Xiamen. Representatives from participating countries boarded China’s large patrol vessel, Haixun 06, to observe the live exercise.

China's Vice Minister of Transport, Wang Gang, delivered a speech, stressing Beijing's commitment to practical cooperation with Pacific Island countries. He stated that, guided by the China’s Initiative on Strengthening Practical Maritime Cooperation with PICs reached at this Foreign Ministers' Meeting, China's maritime authorities will collaborate with Pacific island countries to enhance regional shipping safety, protect the marine environment, safeguard seafarers’ rights, and ensure stable global logistics and supply chains.

The representatives observed on-site drills including maritime search and rescue, ship firefighting, and oil spill emergency response. They also toured Haixun 06’s bridge, helicopter hangar, and integrated command center, gaining a close-up views of advanced maritime equipment such as oil spill radar and photoelectric tracking evidence collection systems. Additionally, they traveled along the Dongdu Channel to witness Xiamen's urban development, port infrastructure, maritime management, natural landscapes, and cultural heritage, experiencing representative achievements of the integrated development of Chinese cities and ports, and appreciating the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature.

During the event, the representatives watched a promotional video on China's maritime governance experience and engaged in thematic discussions with maritime law enforcement officers and experts from Jimei University on topics of common concern to China and Pacific Island countries, such as green shipping and seafarer training.

The representatives highly praised China's capabilities and achievements in maritime safety,environmental protection, shipping decarbonization, seafarer training, emergency response, and international maritime cooperation. They recognized the feasibility and importance of exchanges and cooperation with China in the field of transportation and maritime affairs. Under the framework of China's maritime cooperation initiative, they look forward to comprehensive capacity-building collaboration to drive the safe, green, and intelligent development of regional shipping, jointly writing a new chapter in regional maritime governance cooperation for the benefit of both peoples.
